TMJ Treatment

Many patients have some form of Temporo-Mandibular Joint Disease. This can range from clicking or popping noises in the joint, to severe muscle and joint pain. Other symptoms include sore teeth when biting, deviation of the jaw on opening or closing, frequent headaches in the temple area, and having the jaw lock in an open or closed position.

TMJ disease is often a combination of stress related clenching and/or grinding of the teeth, and having a bite that is not in harmony with the joints and chewing muscles. 90% of the time, symptoms and pain can be alleviated by using an orthotic device that slips over the upper teeth, and allows the bite to be even and the joints to be centered. In severe cases, this is used all day and night for a period of time, until the pain decreases. In other cases, it may just be worn at night. Sometimes, it is actually used to retrain the jaw to prevent grinding of the teeth.

Dr. Boulard has completed advanced training at the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Treatment in St. Petersburg, Florida. He is also currently involved in training at Orgnathic Bioesthetics International, which is the world's foremost authority on TMJ treatment. Training with these advanced study institutions allows Dr. Boulard to successfully treat many TMJ cases.
